What is Positive Psychology?

According to Peterson (2008), Positive Psychology (PP) is a scientific approach studying human thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, with a focus on strengths instead of weaknesses, building the good in life instead of repairing the bad, and taking the lives of average people up to “great” instead of focusing solely on moving those who are struggling up to “normal” (see C. E. Ackerman).

There are now different “waves’ of PP as the theories and evidence-based practices evolved but all aim to improve people’s well-being so that anyone can flourish. Finally, this does not mean it avoids dealing with negative emotions or difficult issues. On the contrary, applied positive psychology offers an array of strategies to tackle what our beautiful and challenging life brings on! For more information, please read here.
